- Our Chosen Charity This Month: Rosies, Friends on the Street
Written by Bella, Sleep Specialist We are proud to announce a new development to our Pay It Forward Programme that will allow us to spread the love and support from our customers to more communities across the country. As of 1 July 2024, Superior Lifestyle will research, identify and connect with a different charity each month and make a donation on behalf of its wonderful customers, both old and new. This month, we have chosen a not-for-profit organisation whose core values we share closely and are interwoven in all of the work that they do. This monthâs chosen charity is: Rosies, Friends on the Street . Since 1987, Rosies has built itâs legacy with compassion, kindness and basic respect for others as its moral compass. Most of this year (so far) has been littered with radio talk and news headlines warning Australians of the cost-of-living crisis, which is why we believe itâs the right time to shed light on the important work that Rosies do. With the aim to build a sense of connection and understanding, Rosies has developed various outreach programs across South East Queensland that focus on our most vulnerable groups in society, including those facing homelessness, social isolation and loneliness. We have not only read stories but also heard from some of our customers about the impacts of rising costs and mounting pressures on families to make ends meet. Rosies play a critical role in helping individuals develop the courage to take steps forward, no matter how big or small. A cuppa and a chat can really make a difference in someone's life as they feel seen and heard. To all of our amazing customers that have put their faith in us, we want to say THANK YOU! Your support is making a difference in the local community and to Australians doing it tough. - Top 3 reasons to buy an adjustable bed
If you've ever been curious or even skeptical about what an adjustable bed can do... this post is for you! We've been around long enough â before NDIS and Home Care Packages â to know the many ways an adjustable bed and pressure care mattress can improve sleep. But for the general public, understanding the benefits of an adjustable bed and actually believing them are two different things. This is especially true for those of us who don't live with a disability or immediate health concern. If you've ever been curious or even skeptical about what an adjustable bed can do for the average Aussie, stay with us. To you we say: the time is now. Good quality sleep is essential for good health â an aid to recovery that simply cannot afford to wait. So without further ado, here are the top 3 ways our Soflex Adjustable Beds and Pressure Care Mattresses help transform sleep for just about anybody. 1. Adjustable beds help you wind down In today's modern world, our brains are wired for a frantic existence. We are constantly comparing ourselves to others, filling our heads with excessive information and barely digesting any of it. The number one reason you should invest in a Soflex Adjustable Bed is to establish a night time routine and calm a busy mind before bed. Humanity has come a long way since the age of the caveman. We no longer need to hunt for food or fight off wild animals to survive. The last 100 years are even more impressive, with global poverty rates at record lows, more girls finishing school than ever and more lives being saved from natural disasters, deadly diseases and war. Unfortunately, human beings are highly responsive to fear, meaning good news stories like these barely gain any traction. Our brains are easily consumed by negative emotions and with the sheer pace and complexity of modern life, we end up pushing our feelings aside in order to chip away at our never-ending to do list. As a result, it can feel impossible some nights to switch off and fall asleep. If this is true for you, remember this is normal human behaviour; but it doesn't have to be. Cue our Soflex Adjustable Beds & Soflex Pressure Care Mattress Range. A criminally understated feature, available on all of our adjustable bed bases, is the whole body massage vibration massage. "The massage setting is so relaxing," (Sandra Day, 2022) With just the press of a button, world-class motors built into the adjustable bed base cycle through a high, medium or low intensity, sending gentle vibration waves through the mattress to reach your body. It might sound like a magic trick, but this effect provides a therapeutic sensation (similar to a massage) and helps you prepare for sleep. The motors operate at a frequency that gives your busy mind an equilibrium to tune into, which in turn helps to block out persistent thoughts. You can forget all your worries, including any drain on electricity, with the 10, 20 or 30 minute timer and automatic shut off. Are you a believer yet? If you think it sounds a little overrated, just look at the actual evidence; our recent Google reviews with customers expressing their adoration for the vibration massage therapy on our adjustable beds. You see, when Einstein said "everything in life is vibration," what he was saying was everything in its purest and most basic form, consists of one cosmic energy. What better way to tap into this life energy than through the vibration therapy on our adjustable beds? 2. Adjustable beds help you increase REM sleep If there is a hell, we're pretty sure it involves restless nights and insomnia. Although we tend to focus on the amount of sleep we get, the old adage proves true; it is the quality of sleep that really matters. That's why the second top reason you should invest in a Soflex Adjustable Bed is to increase your chances of REM sleep. Most of us are able to recognise and curb common factors that contribute to broken sleep, such as bright lights, screen time before bed, alcohol and coffee. But there are some people that experience very minor disruptions to their sleep without even realising it. People with obstructive sleep apnoea, for example, will literally stop breathing for such a short period of time, they don't even know it's happening! We won't unpack the dangers of broken sleep in this post, but there is a mounting body of evidence that suggests sleeping on your back might be the key. Cue our Soflex Adjustable Beds & Soflex Pressure Care Mattress Range. With the power to customise the position you're sleeping in, you unlock a whole new world and a level of comfort that can be optimised night after night, and year after year. It's called Positional Pain Relief (PPR) and with just the press of a button, world-class motors built under the adjustable bed base can help you achieve optimal support for your body. PPR is still relatively unheard of and we put that down to the current market and being spoilt for choice. Today you can find a mattress "designed for" side sleepers, stomach sleepers, back sleepers â you name it! But like most trending products, these mattresses don't solve the problem; they just they kick can down the curb. The truth nobody wants to hear is... there are well known benefits to sleeping on your back and with an adjustable bed, you can train your body to sleep comfortably on your back all night long for maximum recovery. Think about it... when we wake up in the middle of the night just to roll over, it's our body signalling the brain that we're uncomfortable. If you're lucky, you're dead to the world and don't feel a thing, but if you're not so lucky, you probably have an unhealthy addiction to coffee. Not to mention, according to Dr Harriest Hiscock at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, we don't toss and turn when we're in REM sleep. "When we are in [REM] sleep we tend to dream and our body is semi-paralysed, so we can't roll over..." says Dr Harriet Hiscock, paediatric sleep specialist at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. So if we are self-proclaimed "side sleepers" (which is 55% of us according to an Australian study in 2019), perhaps we're not reaching the deepest stages of REM sleep as often as we think. Depending on your age and appetite for change, it can be difficult to unlearn these habits that we have settled into from decades of sleeping in a flat bed. Thankfully our Soflex Adjustable Beds and Pressure Care Mattresses have made it much easier for Australians to get a better night's sleep by: â cradling the spine in its natural alignment, â alleviating compression in the lower back, â encouraging blood flow back into the upper body, â expanding the diaphragm for unobstructed breathing, and â improving neck and head support. It's a no-brainer. 3. Adjustable beds make mornings easier Morning comes, your alarm goes off and itâs time to wake up... Getting out of bed can be tough, but it doesnât have to be torture. The third top reason to invest in a Soflex Adjustable Bed is so you can make mornings easier and seize the day. There are a million and one factors that play into our quality of sleep and how we feel when we wake up. We have covered a few already, but the cold hard truth is every night is different. You might fix the tap that drips on the tiles every night or the gap under the door that brings in too much light, but these are just pieces of the puzzle. We make millions of micro-decisions every day and that plays a role in how we wind down in the evening. For some, it can have a compounded effect or what is now being recognised by health professionals as "sleep inertia". If you wake up and feel groggy for a while after, you'll know what we're talking about. It's not quite the same thing as having a poor night's sleep. But what if we told you feeling refreshed in the morning isnât only about what you do the night before? Cue our Soflex Adjustable Beds and Soflex Pressure Care Mattress Range. The next time you wake up on struggle street ready to hit snooze, don't. With our Soflex Adjustable Bed, you have all the tools at your fingertips to get your blood pumping and body moving. Simply switch on the vibration therapy to wake up your muscles and, if time permits, practice some breathing exercises on YouTube for a challenge. If you're up before sunrise, the under bed light and remote torch can help you avoid an accident (or stubbed toe) and the remote control pocket makes it easy to find. Not to mention, there are plenty of secondary benefits to sleeping on your back such as: (1) Lowering the chances of deepening wrinkles and fine lines â studies have identified a link between the way you sleep and wrinkles; if you sleep in a way that involves squashing your face into a pillow, you may find fine lines more noticeable the next morning. (2) Reducing the overall appearance of puffy eyes â sleeping on your back and a degree of upper body elevation can prevent blood from pooling under your eyes while you sleep and reduce the appearance of puffy eyes when you wake up. (3) Relieving sinus build-up and strengthening your immune system â sleeping face up helps to relieve congestion but we tend to forget this when we're sick and tired; try sleeping with your head above your heart to decrease the build-up of mucus. We all know the feeling when we're are looking our best. Why not strive for that every day? Plus, with two USB ports on either side of the bed, you'll find more time to sleep and less time spent fumbling with cords! Mornings made easier with our Soflex Adjustable Beds. In short... The biggest joke we've ever told ourselves is "you can sleep when you're dead". In our humble opinion, a life without deep sleep is not worth living. In Australia, adjustable beds have been pigeon holed as "hospital beds" and "medical devices"for the elderly and disabled. That is until now. Our collective focus on health has prompted new interest from Gen X (ages 41 to 56) and even Millenials (ages 25 and 40), and soon Australians will follow trends in America, the United Kingdom, Japan and Canada by investing in an adjustable bed for positional pain relief and soothing vibration therapy. Our Soflex Adjustable Beds have all the latest technology for targetting acute pain points in our neck, shoulders and lumbar spine; whilst our Soflex Mattress Range comes in two distinct styles designed in collaboration with leading Allied Health Professionals for the best bodily support. - How to avoid a sleep divorce đ đł
Sleeping in separate rooms is quickly becoming the new norm for couples but what impact is that having and is there a better solution? In this post, we look at the effects of sleeping in separate beds and offer a practical solution that could just save your marriage! Ah, sweet, sweet deep-sleep: a critical component of good health and yet so evasive, it can often slip right through our fingers. The struggle of getting a good night's rest is one that perhaps unites us all and there's no hiding from it either. A poor night's rest bodes ill for happy faces in the morning and throughout the week. If you're not sleeping well next to your partner, just know that you are not alone. Sleeping difficulties affect the vast majority of couples and it is a much bigger problem than we realise. In fact, according to the Australian Sleep Health Foundation, an increasing number of couples will consider a "sleep divorce" for a chance to get some decent shut-eye. "For 1 in 7 adults (14.3%) a partnerâs sleep problem has a moderate or significant effect on the coupleâs relationship," (Sleep Health Foundation, 2016, Link). These statistics increase tenfold when disturbances throughout the night affect one's ability to fall back to sleep. Whether triggered by stress, body pain, noise factors or other stimuli, more and more couples are choosing to sleep in separate bedrooms in order to minimise exposure to broken and restless sleep. Maybe one person snores and the other person is a blanket hog. Maybe you both have radically different sleep schedules or room-temperature preferences. Or maybe you just don't sleep well knowing there is another human breathing the same air as you. Whatever the reason, it is widely accepted that inadequate sleep is bad for both you and your relationship. However, there are significant disadvantages to sleeping apart that are often overlooked and worth considering before taking drastic measures. Sleep is directly linked to marital satisfaction It's no secret â sleep is directly related to marital satisfaction â but sleeping separately has its consequences too. Stacey Green, author of Building Resilience through Relationships, recalls how sleeping apart from her husband nearly destroyed their relationship. âFor a long period of time, I was not sleeping with my husband and I feel that it was part of the reason he had an affair. Perhaps the cuddling, night time banter and spontaneous sex were missing." Naturally, intimacy will take a back seat if you and your partner decide to priortise your individual sleep needs. Whilst you may overcome this hurdle in the short term (by dedicating time to intimacy and affection), it's worth getting to the root cause of your "sleep divorce", whether that be snoring, restless legs, back pain or otherwise. Sleeping in separate rooms is simply a band-aid solution to a problem that requires our full attention. By failing to address the issues at hand, we risk contributing to a tense and volatile household. David Bennett, a certified counselor and relationship expert, says that trying different remedies to end snoring âmay improve the relationship more than any type of therapy or couplesâ activity.â Whatever the issue might be, it will benefit both you and your partner if you approach the matter with a degree of humour, empathy and humility. âThe bottom line here really is, sleeping separately can work for some and not for others,â (Celia Schweyer, 2019). Make sleeping together great again Ultimately, the benefits of sleeping in the same bed cannot be understated â it is a critical time for partners to decompress, connect and offer their support for one another. This is especially true in households with children where co-operation and planning tends to go out of the window. We have been taught to believe that relationships are all about compromise, but in today's society, there are technological solutions that can accommodate couples and their unique sleeping habits. From pressure aborbing mattresses that eliminate partner disturbance to premium-grade adjustable beds that help overcome common barriers to deep sleep, there are plenty of options available that can avoid the dreaded "sleep divorce". Snoozing happily-ever-after! When it comes to relationships, we believe that sleeping in separate rooms is a compromise no couple should have to make. Our Split Queen Adjustable Bed has been specifically designed with couples in mind and comes with two wireless remotes to help both you and your partner find the perfect position. - Is sitting down worse than smoking?
Some say sitting down is the new smoking, which sure sounds a little extreme... but given how many of us now work from home, is it really that hard to believe? Whether you're working from home or not, the science is clear â sitting down for hours on end is far from ideal and we must do more to curtail the long-term effects of a sedentary lifestyle. The Problem When we look at our health and ways to improve our quality of life, it is often our diet and addictions that take center stage. It's easier to accept that the packet of chips we ate before lunch didn't do us any favours and that we ought to eat more greens. But when we think in terms of physical activity or a lack thereof, some of the more problematic behaviours for our health are becoming obscured by modern technology. Whether we're watching movies, playing video games, scrolling on social media or working from home, we are sitting down more than ever before and it's having an impact on our well-being that is easily overlooked. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 55% of adults are not meeting the physical activity guidelines (which suggest a mere minimum of 4 hours exercise per week). This statistic increases dramatically to 70% for children aged 2 to 17 and a whopping 98% for children aged 13 to 17. In other words, just 2% of children aged 13 to 17 are doing the recommended amount of phsyical activity per week. This is down right terrifying and a real insight into the challenges that face our kids. Not to mention, the compounded effects of the global pandemic. "COVID-19 has added extra barriers to being active, especially for organised sport. Health concerns and restrictions â like school closures, gym closures and lockdowns â mean Australians had to change how, and how often, they are active," (Department of Health, 2021). We know this isn't ground-breaking information: the case for getting up and moving is undisputed. But the point that needs to be stressed is how dangerous sitting down can be for extended periods of time and the benefits of bringing mindfulness to this practice. The Impact So what's the big deal? Well if you start your work day by making a cup of coffee, sitting down at your desk and then don't move for long stretches of time, your body will gradually feel worse for wear. After just 30 minutes of sitting, our supportive postural muscles become fatigued and we begin to slouch. This causes our shoulders to roll forward which pulls our head along with it and adds additional stress on our spinal discs. If you're slouching, then you can also bet you're aggravating your tailbone. The tailbone, or coccyx, is a small bony structure at the bottom of your spine which bears the brunt of our body weight when sitting down. As the day goes on, your tailbone will rotate outwards and inwards to better support and balance the body. This rotation is why we end up leaning back in our chairs and feel the need to constantly re-adjust in our seat. Our body also depends on us moving around to be able to circulate blood properly and relieve tension. So when we forgo the 10 minute screen break or take lunch back to our desk, we're actually developing poor habits that lend themselves to sore butt cheeks, inflammation, restless legs and more. A poorly designed office space or ill fitting dining chair only exascerbates the strain we put on our bodies and contributes to further compression in our spine and disk degeneration as we age. The Solution If you've been working remotely throughout the pandemic, you're no doubt aware of the immense strain you end up putting on your back and buttocks. An ergonomic desk and work environment is an obvious solution, but there's no need to break the bank. The simple solution is often the best and we believe we've got it. It's none other than the humble seat cushion and we've redesigned this staple with a thermoplastic polymer rubber to stand the test of time. SoflexÂŽ Endurance Cushion Unlike most other seat cushions available in the market, the SoflexÂŽ Endurance Cushion will always return to its original shape and does not form an impression of its user's tush within a few months. It is extremely adaptable to any body shape and size and absorbs the pressure on your spine by distributing body weight evenly along the sit bones. This in turn allows you to maintain the natural curvature in your lower spine and automatically corrects your sitting posture, so you don't end up in the cycle of rotating your pelvis to alleviate tension. You'll find the SoflexÂŽ Endurance Cushion brings you more awareness of your posture throughout the day and is far more breathable and cooling than memory foam alternatives. Give any chair an immediate upgrade and mitigate risk of degenerating spinal discs today. Check out our fantastic SoflexÂŽ Endurance Cushion below or call 1300 825 931 for more information.
- NDIS Participant Reviews Galaxy Adjustable Bed
After taking delivery in August this year, we sat down with the lovely Bryda-Anne Benvenuti for her honest review of our company, team and game-changing adjustable beds... Tags: #NDIS #SpinaBifida #Disability #AdjustableBed #AssistiveTechnology #Review #Sleep #Spine #Health #Wellbeing #GoldCoast #OccupationalTherapist #Support #Australia #Brisbane #SunshineCoast #Logan #Melbourne #Sydney #Bendigo #Ballarat #CentralCoast #ByronBay #Newcastle #Canberra #Adelaide Every now and then our Sleep Specialists stumble across a customer whose life journey touches the very essence of what it means to be human. In the story of Bryda-Anne Benvenuti, this was especially true and yet we could not have anticipated the real impact our Galaxy Adjustable Bed and SoflexÂŽ Mattress would have on Bryda's health and well-being. After listening to Bryda-Anne explain her limited mobility and independence, our Sleep Specialists were determined to help her achieve a better quality of life through deep sleep and funding under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). "The Zero Gravity Position is a great feature of the Galaxy Adjustable Bed for people with chronic pain like myself." Searching for the Perfect Adjustable Bed Bryda-Anne contacted us back in May this year interested in our adjustable beds and pressure reduction mattresses. As she describes in her testimonial, Bryda was actually enquiring into our adjustable beds for her father, who had broken ribs as a result of a workplace injury. After discussing her father's health needs with our Sleep Specialists, Bryda realised our adjustable beds and pressure relieving mattresses could also make a world difference to her mobility and independence. As a registered NDIS provider, our Sleep Specialists guided Bryda through the process of achieving NDIS funding and was quickly approved for our assistive technology including the Galaxy Adjustable Bed Base, SoflexÂŽ Mattress with Silk Floss Topper and Atlantis Lift-Assist Recliner Chair. "Before I came across the Galaxy Adjustable Bed, my life was full of pain. I could sneeze or take a step and put my back out." As a grown woman living with spina bifida, Bryda-Anne was able to gain back capacities she had never thought possible. Find out what Bryda has to say about our Galaxy Adjustable Bed and SoflexÂŽ Mattress in the video testimonial below. What is Spina Bifida? Spina bifida is a birth defect of the spine in which part of the spinal cord and its meninges are exposed through a gap in the backbone. It occurs when a baby's spinal cord fails to develop properly in the womb and is known to vary in severity. For most people, surgery is an option to close the opening in the spine. However, it is often too late to prevent damage to the nervous system which leads to a variety of symptoms including: weakness or paralysis of the lower limbs, bowel incontinence and urinary incontinence, loss of skin sensation in the lower limbs, and learning difficulties. It is an incredibly difficult disability to live with, as the spinal cord forms part of the body's central nervous system â it is the pathway for messages sent by the brain to the body and back again. It's not hard to imagine then, how Spina Bifida can have a debilitating impact on day to day life and lead to a range of motor and sensory problems. Our Superior Adjustable Bed & SoflexÂŽ Mattress Our adjustable bed bundles offer the perfect solution to a wide range of disabilities including spina bifida. With all of the latest features and technology available, the Galaxy Adjustable Bed with SoflexÂŽ Mattress and Silk Floss Topper is Australia's favourite sleep system. Give our friendly team of Sleep Specialists a call today on 1300 825 931 and find out how you transform your quality of life with Superior Lifestyle.
- How Superior Mobility Chairs Could Benefit You
More Aussies are investing in mobility aids and recliner chairs but are they worthwhile or simply a mancave necessity? In this post, we explain why a mobility lift recliner chair from Superior Lifestyle is your next best health investment. Written by Sid, Sleep Specialist, 12 August 2020 I know I'm not the only one who is prone to sleeping in the movies or in front of the TV. If you're vertically challenged, you might even find you can get comfortable sleeping on a plane. For the rest of us, economy class is simply a brutal reminder of how much difference a couple of inches could make. If you've ever wondered why reclining your car seat or laying in a hamock is so comfortable, keep reading. The answer lies in our anatomy and in this post, we'll explore how our mobility lift recliner chairs can make all the difference to your quality of life. Does sleeping flat do more damage than good? For centuries, it has made sense to lie down flat and fall asleep. Not only does this help to slow down our heart rate, it also allows our spines to decompress after a long day of twists and turns. Our ancestors did not have the luxury of sleeping in a mobility lift recliner chair... but if they did, we can't help but wonder, would there be less barriers to getting a quality night's sleep? Barriers like, for example, sleep apnoea, gastric reflux and sciatica: all health issues commonly resolved by repositioning the body. Whether or not flat beds are to blame, it's no secret that back problems are having a colossal impact on our productivity. "Low back pain is the leading cause of disability globally â with more than 540 million people affected by activity-limiting low back pain at any one time," (Monash University, 2018). According to a study by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2018, around 16% of the population suffer from varying degrees of back pain. That equates to roughly 4 million Australians, who have been estimated by Monash University to spend $4.8 billion a year on managing the side effects of static posture. These statistics illustrate the importance of preventative measures that promote good posture all day and all night. Measures like, for example, our adjustable beds, pressure relieving mattresses and mobility lift recliner chairs, which are all Class IA Medical Devices listed in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (#307512). Band-aid solutions like paracetamol or aggravating massages, ought to be replaced with investments on your money. When you consider that 80% of us will suffer from some form of back pain during our lifetime, the benefits of a Superior Mobility Chair become glaringly obvious. But before we get into the nitty gritty, let's take a trip to the moon đđ to better understand the human body. What is "Zero Gravity" anyway? In order to land on the moon, NASA's Space Engineers and Scientists had to research a substantial volume of the human body. One of their critical discoveries was the body's natural position in an environment with zero gravity, which effectively eliminates unnecessary strain on our bones, muscles and organs. The findings of this research have continued to inform engineers in multiple disciplines from automobiles and airplanes to office chairs and bed bases. It can be reduced to a simple equation: With this understanding, we can now explain the multitude of benefits from positional pain relief provided by Superior Mobility Chairs, during work, sleep and moments of self-care. Relieve body aches and pains If you picture your average daily routine, you'll probably find that you spend most of your day slouched infront of a computer or hunched over paperwork at your desk. You might spend another two hours or more watching television on the lounge, or driving to and from work. When we build such a routine, it is common for our spines to fall out of alignment. This places immense pressure on other bones, muscles and organs to support our weight. It is only natural in our sedentary society but can be mitigated with the help of our mobility lift recliner chairs. By lowering our upper body and elevating our legs, we can alter the direction of pressure on our bodies and effectively distribute our body mass. Our vertebrae are also afforded greater space to open and relax. In doing so, it encourages a neutral posture, eliminating any potential for muscle tension, stiffness or numbness. Put simply, our Superior Mobility Chairs help to create an ergonomic environment that is conducive to deep sleep, productivity and leisure. Improve your mobility and independence Our mobility lift recliner chairs also offer a solution to common health issues that hinder our mobility and independence. All too often, our customers tell us about the difficulty they experience trying to walk after being seated in one position. This is easily explained â being static and stiff for extended periods of time contributes to muscle stiffness and numbness. Not to mention, it can be quite embarrassing and a shot to our dignity having to depend on others. In our mission to eliminate unnecessary strain on our bodies, we have purposefully built our mobility lift recliner chairs to include a wide range of functions, including: flat or partial recline, flat leg elevation, thermo-heat therapy, full body vibration therapy, and lift up assist. Collectively, these features have empowered thousands of Australians to target common health issues ranging from leg cramps, varicose veins and lymphedema (swollen legs) to joint fatigue, osteoarthritis and bone degeneration. Simply turn on the thermo-heat pads, warm up your muscles and stimulate your body with a revitalising massage. In doing so, your body will engage in a light form of exercise, helping to maintain muscle tone and avoid injury. With the added power to lift the chair and exit your seat, our Superior Mobility Chairs offer the perfect solution for improving your mobility and maintaining your independence. Bolster your health and immunity Lastly, our mobility lift recliner chairs have proven to deliver physiological and neuromuscular benefits that cannot be understated. Supported by growing research into Whole Body Vibration (WBV), our Superior Mobility Chairs use advanced technology to encourage lymphatic drainage and bloster our immune system. It does so by using powerful vibration waves to move white blood cells around the body. White blood cells are known as the "cavalry" of the immune system, helping to remove debris from broken down cells and attack invading bacteria. In some instances, the increase in oxygen-rich blood flow will also cause a dramatic spike in the Human Growth Hormone (HGH). HGH is known to be the key ingredient in regeneration and cell repair. Whilst the body does a great job of removing toxins on its own, there are a variety of lifestyle factors that can prevent lymphatic drainage from happening on a regular basis. If you experience one or more of the following symptoms, you ought to consider vibration therapy as an effective means for detoxing the body: enlarged lymph nodes, onset fatigue, headaches, bloating or excess weight, soreness and stiffness (especially when you first wake up), or chronic colds or sinus infections. In a Superior Mobility Chair, your body will thank you for the immediate pressure relief and influx of vital nutrients to different areas of the body. Our Superior Mobility Chairs were designed for the sole purpose of relieving stress and enables this by cradling the body into a cushioned state of complete bliss and relaxation. How can we help? If you suffer from chronic pain, anxiety or stress, our Class IA Medical Devices listed in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods may offer you some genuine relief. Our adjustable beds, pressure relieving mattresses and mobility lift recliner chairs combine premium quality and the latest technology for positional pain-relief that actually works. Coupled with thermo-heat and whole body vibration therapy, our full range of products are truly the simple solution to a better quality of life. - Does sleeping flat do more damage than good?
More Aussies are investing in mobility aids and recliner chairs but are they worthwhile or simply a mancave necessity? In this three-part series, we explain why a mobility lift recliner chair from Superior Lifestyle is your next best health investment. Written by Sid, Sleep Specialist, 20 January 2020 I know I'm not the only one who is prone to sleeping in the movies or in front of the TV. If you're not vertically challenged, you might even find you can get comfortable sleeping on a plane. For the rest of us, economy class is simply a brutal reminder of how much difference a couple of inches could make. If you've ever wondered why reclining your car seat or laying in a hamock is so comfortable, keep reading. The answer lies in our anatomy and over the next few weeks, we will explore how our mobility lift recliner chairs can make all the difference to your quality of life. - Why we often slide towards sleeping in our recliners
More Aussies are investing in mobility aids and recliner chairs but are they worthwhile or simply a mancave necessity? In this second instalment of our three-part-series, we explain why a mobility lift recliner chair from Superior Lifestyle is your next best health investment. Written by Sid, Sleep Specialist, 10 April 2021 You may recall in our first blog of this series, we presented and analysed a detailed report from 2018 by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was estimated that around 16% of the population suffer from varying degrees of back pain. We can only assume this number is steadily increasing as more generations develop what's known as "text-neck" and we identified the collosal impact this problem is having on our productivity as a nation. The case for preventative measures that promote good posture day and night is clearer than ever and in this post, we will exactly explain how our lift recliner chairs have helped others overcome common barriers to a good night's sleep. The Origins of "Zero-Gravity Positioning" In order to land on the moon, NASA's top space engineers and scientists carried out a substantial volume of research into the inner workings of the human body. One of their critical discoveries was the body's behaviour and response to a lack of gravitational pull. In this environment, the body assumes a natural position that minimises the strain on our muscles and organs. NASA used this information to calculate and design a reclined position in its space shuttles that would mitigate the effects of increased G-force during lift off. Although the mathematics appear overcomplicated, the science can be reduced to one simple equation: zero gravity positioning + pressure relief = pure comfort. This critical discovery has continued to inform engineers in multiple disciplines across the globe from automobiles and aeroplanes to office chairs, helmets, shoes and of course, bed bases and lift recliner chairs. For many, including our customers, zero gravity positioning has made a real difference by raising the legs above the heart to achieve a sensation of weightlessness. In fact, it's no longer a secret and the benefits it delivers for health conditions such as venous swelling, poor blood circulation, fluid retention, aches and pains and pressure sores are documented and well research. That's why we are so passionate about what we do. We are on a mission to improve Australia's sleep deficit by making a Superior Lifestyle accessible for anyone. In our final post of this series, we take a deeper dive into the array of benefits offered by our lift recliner chairs and the specific functions that may help improve your overall health and well-being. - Understanding the Benefits of "Zero-Gravity" Sleep â¨đ¨đťâđ
Gravity may keep us grounded, but it also weighs us down. For some, it can actually be the barrier preventing them from a peaceful night's sleep. That's why we've made it our mission to help you achieve a better quality of life through our premium range of adjustable beds. In this blog post, we unpack the science behind our adjustable beds, what zero gravity positioning really means and how it might help you achieve a better quality of life through deep sleep. Three critical factors to deep sleep: Position! Position! Position! It is widely accepted that a supportive mattress is critical to longer lasting, deep sleep. But our position throughout the night plays an equally important role that is often overlooked. For centuries we have resorted to lying flat on our backs in order to rest and recuperate. But technology has since evolved to help us achieve better results for the mind, body and soul. The question is: why arenât we using it? When we consider the impact that gravity can have on our bodies (by compressing our spines, tensing up other muscles and increasing our recovery time) an adjustable bed that conforms to our natural body shape makes complete sense. Couple that with Zero Gravity Positioning and our adjustable beds are the perfect solution to this problem, helping to neutralise the effects of gravity and accelerate sleep recovery. What is Zero Gravity Positioning? In order to land on the moon, NASA's top space engineers and scientists carried out a substantial volume of research into the inner workings of the human body. One of their critical discoveries was the body's behaviour and response to a lack of gravitational pull. In this environment, the body assumes a natural position that minimises the strain on our muscles and organs. NASA then took this information and developed a reclined seating position in its space shuttles to mitigate the effect of increased G-force during lift off. In doing so, their astronauts were placed in a state of weightlessness - their body weight equalised and NASA was able to minimise excessive pressure on the human body. The findings of this research continues to inform engineers across the world in multiple industries from automobiles and airplanes, to office chairs, footwear and bed frames. Our adjustable beds take full advantage of this discovery and with just the touch of a button, help you move into a position that mimics the weightless support and pressure-free sensation of floating in space. When youâre in zero gravity, your thighs and torso are perfectly aligned and your knees are elevated to bring your toes in line with your heart. Now that we know what Zero Gravity Positioning is all about, we can unpack the many ways our adjustable beds have helped our customers. 1. Improve Breathing & Reduce Snoring If you suffer from allergies, asthma, sleep apnoea or other respiratory illnesses, our adjustable beds have helped others achieve a night of unbroken sleep. This is especially true for Rozanne Oliff, who would experience shortness of breath and tend to cough after lying down flat on her back. For some, lying down on a flatbed causes the tissues and excess fat around our necks to soften and partially obstruct the airways. As air then travels to and from our lungs, the tissues vibrate, resulting in minor to major disruptions to our sleep. In the worst possible scenario, a total blockage of our airways could prevent the body from getting enough oxygen and lead to life-threatening injuries such as brain damage or heart-attack. With the Zero Gravity Positioning available in our adjustable beds, our customers have been able to elevate the torso to their individual comfort and alleviate the impact of downward pressure on their lungs and airways. It allows for more natural and relaxed breathing throughout the night, which is often the missing ingredient for those of us who struggle to achieve R.E.M. sleep. 2. Improve Blood Circulation & Heart Health Hereâs a fun fact for you: your heart will beat around 115,000 times a day and pump 7,500 litres of blood around the body. In doing so, it helps maintain homeostasis, fight against disease and nourish the body with vital nutrients such as amino acids, electrolytes, oxygen and hormones. If anything, sleep time is an opportunity for our cardiovascular system to rest and replenish rather than work harder, which is why zero gravity positioning is so important. By sleeping at an angle of 120-degrees, our customers have been able to reverse the effects of gravity and promote greater blood circulation from head to toe. Blood feels gravity, too. On Earth, blood pools in the feet. When people stand, the blood pressure in their feet can be high -- about 200 mmHg (millimeters of mercury)... In space, where the familiar pull of gravity is missing, the head-to-toe gradient vanishes, ("Gravity Hurts (So Good)", NASA, 2001). Fluids that pool in the lower legs after a long day of sitting or standing are directed back through the body, helping to flush out lymph nodes, stimulate digestion and release toxins. All of these effects help minimise pressure and strain on the heart. It is simply a win-win for positive sleep hygiene and healthy bodily function. So, whether you are a victim of puffy eyes or more serious health issues such as lymphedema and diabetes, our adjustable beds may assist you by increasing blood flow and lymphatic circulation. 3. Improve Mobility & Spinal Health Last but by no means least, our adjustable beds offer many health benefits for the spine, especially when compared to the traditional flat beds most of us still use. By cradling the body in a supported posture, the spine is encouraged to decompress and thereby minimises the pull on surrounding tissues. It also has the effect of reducing pressure on our intervertebral discs, which is critical to spinal health and lessens the potential for nerve impingement (i.e. pinched nerves). Put simply, customisable sleep positioning helps the spine loosen and relax, which in todayâs world cannot be understated. For some, it delivers much needed relief from pain in the lower back and neck. Our adjustable beds have proven to be the answer to âmorning stiffnessâ, tight muscles and cramps, along with many other health issues that impede our sleep performance. How can we help?
